PTSD & Trauma Support at Somerset Equus

At Somerset Equus, we support veterans, first responders, and individuals living with PTSD through a trauma-informed, holistic approach. Our peaceful rural setting provides a safe space to slow down, reconnect, and find relief from daily stress. Equine assisted coaching helps participants build trust, mindfulness, and emotional awareness through calm, non-judgemental interaction with horses.

Nature, Creativity & Hands-On Healing

Alongside horse interaction, we use creative and nature-based activities to support emotional expression and grounding. Participants may engage in art, crafts, and practical outdoor tasks that encourage focus, calm, and a sense of achievement within the natural environment of Somerset Equus.

We tailor each session to the individual, supporting veterans, first responders, and those living with PTSD in a way that meets their personal needs. By combining horses, nature, creativity, and practical work, we create a safe and supportive pathway toward resilience, stability, and healing.

At Somerset Equus, we are committed to supporting veterans, first responders, and anyone living with PTSD through a holistic, trauma-informed approach. Our tranquil grounds and peaceful environment are carefully designed to promote healing, offering a sanctuary where individuals can reconnect with themselves and find respite from the stresses of everyday life. Through equine assisted coaching, participants engage with our intuitive horses in ways that encourage mindfulness and build trust, allowing them to process experiences and emotions in a safe, non-judgmental space. The unique bond formed between humans and horses is especially powerful for those who have faced trauma, providing immediate feedback and fostering self-awareness.

Beyond equine interactions, we integrate nature, art, and craft into our programs to enhance the therapeutic experience. Individuals are invited to express themselves creatively through painting, sculpting, or crafting, activities that help unlock insights, encourage emotional release, and support personal growth. Being immersed in the natural beauty of Somerset Equus—our fields, gardens, and pond—amplifies the healing process, offering opportunities for reflection and connection. Practical physical work, such as gardening, building, or caring for the land, not only provides a sense of accomplishment but also grounds participants in the present moment, aiding in emotional regulation and resilience.

Our team works closely with each participant to tailor sessions to their unique needs, whether they are veterans, first responders, or individuals living with PTSD. By blending animal-assisted activities with creative and practical work, we ensure that every person receives support that is meaningful and relevant. The combination of art, nature, horse interaction, and hands-on tasks empowers participants to build confidence, foster new coping strategies, and embark on a journey toward healing and well-being. Somerset Equus stands as a welcoming, therapeutic setting where those who have served or experienced trauma can find hope, strength, and community.
