About Us

What is
Equine-Assisted
Coaching?

At Somerset Equus, our mission is to create a safe, compassionate, and empowering space where children, young people, and adults can reconnect with themselves through experiential, relational work in nature. We come with no agenda and no expectation. Instead, we meet every individual exactly where they are, honouring their pace, their story, and their strengths.

Through trauma‑informed, experiential sessions alongside our horses and natural environment, we support clients to explore their emotions, build trust, and discover their own way forward. Our role is not to direct, but to walk alongside—offering attuned presence, curiosity, and steady relational support. We believe that meaningful change grows from within, and we are committed to fostering the conditions where that growth can unfold safely, authentically, and with dignity.

Meeting you where you are, walking with you as you find your way forward.

Our Values

01.

Meeting You Where You Are

We arrive without agenda or expectation. Each session begins with attunement - noticing, listening, and responding to what is present for the individual in that moment.
02.

Relational Safety

Trust grows through consistency, compassion, and genuine connection. We prioritise emotional and physical safety so clients can explore at their own pace.
03.

Empowerment Through Choice

Clients lead the way. We honour autonomy, encourage agency, and support individuals to discover their own direction.
04.

Trauma‑Informed Practice

Our work is grounded in understanding how experiences shape behaviour, emotion, and relationships. We respond with sensitivity, curiosity, and respect for each person’s story.
05.

Nature as Co‑Facilitator

The natural environment and our horses and other animals offer grounding, regulation, and honest feedback. We value the wisdom and presence they bring to the therapeutic process.
06.

Strengths‑Based Approach

We focus on what is working, what is possible, and what is emerging. Every individual has innate strengths, and our role is to help them recognise and build on them.
07.

Authenticity and Integrity

We show up with honesty, transparency, and humility. Our practice is rooted in ethical, reflective, and evidence‑informed work.
08.

Collaboration and Connection

We work alongside families, schools, and professionals to create joined‑up, meaningful support. Relationships are at the centre of everything we do.
09.

Respect for Pace and Process

Growth is not rushed. We honour pauses, setbacks, and small steps recognising that healing and change unfold in their own time.
10.

Holding Hope

Even when life feels heavy or stuck, we hold hope gently and steadily. We believe in each person’s capacity to move forward in ways that feel true to them.

About our centre & grounds

Somerset Equus sits on the edge of the Somerset Levels, offering a safe and nurturing space especially designed setting to support the social, emotional, and mental wellbeing of children, young people, and adults—including those with ADHD, autism, and AuDHD.

Our center is designed to be a peaceful and welcoming environment, providing a sense of calm and safety for all visitors. The tranquil setting and thoughtful layout offer a therapeutic environment, which has been especially beneficial for individuals living with PTSD. Many guests have found that the soothing atmosphere and the connection with our animals and the surrounding nature supports their healing journey and fosters a sense of well- being.

Our peaceful grounds feature spacious fields, a flourishing vegetable garden, and a serene pond, creating an environment rich in opportunities for reflection, connection, and growth. We specialise in working alongside schools and social care professionals, providing tailored experiences that foster resilience and personal development. With ample space to engage with nature and horses, Somerset Equus is an inspiring setting where individuals can flourish. We welcome referrals from educators and social workers seeking innovative, therapeutic support for those in their care.
